The Worlds a Little Blurry (maybe its my eyes)

Inspired by Billie Eilish’s ilomilo, this project explores themes of isolation, mental health, and the internal struggle of executive dysfunction. My goal was to immerse the audience in the perspective of my subject—sometimes confronting them directly, and other times offering a “blurry” view through the subject’s eyes. The color palette of deep blues and reds reflects fear, sadness, and anger, while unifying the series and nodding to the video game that inspired the song. Including both portrait and landscape images allowed me to depict internal and external perspectives, illustrating the invisible weight of anxiety and existential dread.

I experimented with flash and night photography, editing images for color and blur to convey disorientation and emotional intensity. Collaborating closely with my model, we explored lighting, locations, and emotional cues, capturing authentic expressions—sometimes even real tears—to convey the rawness of the experience. The final series was carefully sequenced to balance color, composition, and narrative flow, with a central image of the model confronting the audience serving as the emotional anchor of the project.
